Every now and then we stumble across blogs that mention our names and we enjoy reading what others have said about us. Last week I happened upon Ron Wilson's blog entitled, "A Senior Moment". You can find the direct link above. Ron was nice enough to let us share his experience on our website. Ron was on one of the tour buses that visit us on a regular basis and his insight into what a tour bus vacation is humorous and entertaining. In order to understand what built up to his experience with Canyonlands By Night, you have to hear about his whole day. I hope you enjoy as much as we have.
Note: Mr. Wilson uses TD for Tour Director and TW for the wife.

Day 7
The day starts out with Bags out at 7:00 A.M. Departure is at 7:50 A.M. We drink some coffee in our room and eat a couple nutrition bars for breakfast. We don't get to eat the hotel's breakfast again. Whoever set this up is a moron, if you ask me.
We leave at the appointed time, and head to our next destination, Monument Valley.

Monument Valley.
Ever since my childhood, back in the fifties, I have wanted to see this place. Everyone has memories of their childhood, and the things that mattered to them, back then. For me, it was the old west, of cowboys and Indians and covered wagons, and bad old gunfighters, the whole myth of the west. I remember watching the Cisco Kid, and Hopalong Cassidy, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans (Happy Trails to you!), Annie Oakley, and then all the prime time westerns like Have Gun Will Travel, Cheyenne, and so many more. And there were the movies, too. The first time I saw "The Searchers," I was eleven. I've never forgotten that first time, I was just totally taken in by the story. I believe I've probably seen that movie at least fifty times, and still watch it on occasion today. Also, all the others with John Wayne, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, so many more. Many of the films these actors worked in were made in or near Monument Valley.
And so, for more than fifty years, I've been hoping to visit Monument Valley. All the time I was growing up, joining the service after high school, meeting my sweetheart and getting married, having children and working hard to provide for my family, I kept hoping. I knew someday I would get there, and stand where my hero's from my childhood stood and saw what they saw. Today was the day. Today, I would be there. Yeah, you can say, I was really looking forward to it.
And it nearly didn't happen.
Famous Star on our Boat!
On July 19th, Canyonlands By Night and Day was graced with a star, so to say. Mutley, the dog joined us for the Sunset Jetboat.
Mutley and his owner Gene Alba, joined us for one of his newest adventure. Mutley is an super-dog that has a series of books, featuring the different activities and adventures he goes on. Mutley can ski or dive (as you can see from the photo below). Mutley enjoyed handing his ticket to our driver and sticking his tongue out off the side of the boat as he flew past scenery. Mutley is a well behaved dog and we were pleased to have him.

Utah's Liquor Law Changes
Link: http://www.visitsaltlake.com/articles/index.cfm?articleID=125&menuID=266
The following is a press release by Visit Salt Lake. There are many good points in the article not only for Salt Lake, but for all of Utah.
Utah's Private Clubs A Thing of the Past - Sweeping Liquor Law Changes Embraced by Salt Lake CVB
03.20.2009
Following decades of baffling visitors with its quirky liquor laws, Utah legislators recently passed sweeping changes to the state's oft-criticized liquor laws, including the elimination of the state's private club system, a move that will simply add to Utah's ever-growing attributes as a world-class convention and tourism destination.
Surprising to many first-time visitors, Salt Lake has long been home to numerous brew pubs featuring award-winning brewmasters and an eclectic, diverse nightlife scene, but Utah's unique liquor laws have caused confusion to many considering a Utah meeting, convention or vacation. The bill to change what has been referred to as archaic legislation will introduce a sense of "normalcy" to Utah's clubs and bars, making them an attribute now as opposed to a liability to the state's tourism marketing efforts. Couple that with Salt Lake's incredible meeting facilities, expansive array of accommodations and dining options, vibrant cultural arts scene and world-class outdoor recreation, and Salt Lake is a formidable destination for any and all groups.
This weekend is a "Fee-Free" Weekend for Local National Parks and Monuments
The second of three "fee-free" weekends announced by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar as a way of
encouraging Americans seeking affordable vacations to visit their national parks is quickly approaching.
This Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments will join national park units across the country in waiving entrance fees for all park visitors.
Visitors who arrive on either of these days will be allowed to enter and visit the park free of charge. Those whose plans include additional days in the park, will need to pay the regular entrance fee for the remainder of their stay. Park visitors are reminded that the fee-free designation applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping, reservations, or special tours.
This is the second of three fee-free weekends to be held this summer. The final fee-free weekend will be held August 15 - 16. These fee-free weekends are excellent opportunities to get reacquainted with your national parks while enjoying inexpensive, family-oriented fun.
At Your Leisure Travel Show
At Your Leisure came last fall in 2008 and did this really great promotion for us. We really enjoyed having them and will have them return this week to do another piece. We've uploaded the show here so that you can enjoy.
Welcome to Canyonlands By Night & Day's Blog
We are still going strong in 2009 and have a few things to share with you:
- Bridge Construction: Construction on the Bridge has started and will continue for some time. Many people have been concerned about our ability to continue our tours. We will continue our tours without any problems. We are working with the bridge builders and have been assured that we will have no problems. So
- Tours: All of our tours are the same great tours from years before, we very little alter any of our trips.
- Hotel Packages: A great way to save money in this weak economy is by booking a hotel package in combination with our tours. There is a typical savings from $37-216 for a couple. Check out our web page more information!
- Water Levels: Captain Rory says the water levels are doing well for this time of year. Heavy rains this spring took our area from drought conditions to above average rain totals.
Since things have been getting hotter around here, we recommend a boat tour to help cool you off!
